Holland named GM of the Year

What a day full of congratulations.

Red Wings General Manager, Ken Holland, was named GM of the Year by The Hockey News.
Congratulations to Ken Holland on this award. He truly is a great GM and has made this team successful and continues to do so for the future.

The architect of the Red Wings, Ken Holland was named the NHL general manager of the year, for his work in very nearly leading Detroit to back-to-back championships, as awarded by The Hockey News.

Holland continued to show incredible acumen in his position, signing franchise cornerstone Henrik Zetterberg and power forward Johan Franzen to long-term, salary cap-friendly deals and refusing to panic over the play of Chris Osgood when the veteran goalie stumbled during the regular-season.

Also in the running for top GM honors were Pittsburgh's Ray Shero and Jim Rutherford for his work in patching together a Carolina roster that advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. Rutherford played for the Red Wings, winning 97 games in 314 starts in 10 seasons.

The Hockey News’ annual GM accolade takes into account both regular-season and playoff performance.
